Courage on College Campuses

I just now read Princeton professor Anthony Esolen’s recent Crisis Magazine article, “I Met a Hero in Harvard Yard.”

I was refreshed to read Esolen’s report of a group of courageous Harvard undergraduates who together organized and executed an anti-pornography campaign on their campus—a place that is, shall we say, less than receptive to any message that hints of “traditional” sexual ethics.

Esolen goes on to mention that these undergraduates were members of Harvard’s Anscombe Society for Traditional Morality. This isn’t surprising.

But it is, as I say, refreshing to hear a story like this and to know that there are students who exhibit the virtue of fortitude. Speaking truth to power (especially the power of one’s peers’ consensus) is not easy; I’m sure that Harvard, like Notre Dame, has its fair share of Nicodemuses.

Thank you, Harvard undergraduates, for your courageous example. Would that more college students were like you in this respect.
