She Remained Faithful for 60 Years…

I recently watched a striking news clip telling the story of a woman named Peggy Harris who was married during World War II for six weeks before her husband was sent to fight in the war. Tragically, she never heard from him again. In the years following, she received different messages from the government about his status, but she never got a straight answer. Mrs. Harris never knew if he was dead or alive. But instead of giving up and remarrying, she just waited. And waited.

For 60 years.

Well, she finally discovered what had happened to him after all those decades, and it’s an incredible story. My words won’t do it justice, you’ll just have to watch the story yourself.

But one thought on her fidelity: imagine if we still had this view of marriage. How different would our society look today? Mrs. Harris makes no mention of God or morality, but she knew marriage was to be taken seriously and in this case– there was a lot more “for worse” than “for better”. But that was that, and she was unwavering. Truly, she should be commended.
