The Left’s Pathetic Response to Russia

In light of the recent aggression of Russia towards its satellite states… I mean “neighbors”, it is instructive to look back. We must never forget the amnesiac nature of the liberal mind.

Take any history of the Cold War course at an American university, and you are likely to get the following standard lines: “Gorbachev was really the one responsible for ending the Cold War, not Reagan”,or “Americans were paranoid and xenophobically concerned with the paper tiger of Russia.”

Also “Reagan was psychopathically irresponsible for stock piling nuclear weapons and adding to the arms race”.

These claims are revisionism at its most propagandistic. It serves two purposes. First, it fulfills the progressive’s favorite pastime of criticizing America for past sins or follies.

Second, it covers up the embarrassing reality that liberals impeded the “peace through strength” strategy every step of the way. They compromised with madmen, lied to protect proved soviet spies, and undermined America’s moral convictions at every turn.

So what does this have to do with Russia? Aside from the fact that Romney’s analysis of Russia has been vindicated while Obama’s criminally negligent and naïve foreign policy has been laid bare, we can now see that evil never really dies.

You change the flag, economy, and governmental structure, but if your leaders are bent on domination, there will be no peace. This is a lesson the progressive will never learn.

The world is born anew each morning for him. He can look his foe in the eye and delude himself into believing the lies so long as he can maintain the moral high ground over those who “misunderstand” the latest dictator.

This newest failure of the left to see the conflict in the Crimea for what it is will only add to the stack of conflicts, which have been more costly then need be.

We cannot negotiate our way out of a world in which people seek to control others. What we can control, however, are the naïve impulses in our own minds that strive to minimize the reality of evil in the world.
